Pushing Limits

On Friday 2 February 2024 our "own" André Gunst took the stage in Ahoy Rotterdam to inspire an audience of ~600 people with the fascinating journey we are undertaking. He explained how we unveil the mysteries of the Universe by pushing the limits of technology. In his talk he explained how we make discoveries in radio astronomy happen, our mission.

The event "TechStories" was organised by FHI (Federatie Het Instrument), which is a federation of technology branches (www.fhi.nl). The goal of FHI was to organize an inspiring tech event about groundbreaking technologies.

André was happy he participated: "During the preparation and before the event I felt a very thin line between on the one hand tension and on the other hand excitement. I was very much looking forward to it, but at some times I thought: why am I doing this... After the talk I felt pride. Pride in what we, at ASTRON (and JIVE/NOVA of course), are doing but also pride that opportunities like these pass by which help me stretch my comfort zone. So the talk was about pushing the limits of radio astronomy and technology, but the experience led me to push the limits of my own comfort zone. What's next?"
