On November 27th, 2023, ASTRON PhD student David Konijn received a Jong Talent Afstudeerprijs voor Sterrenkunde (MSc thesis prize) from the Koninklijke Hollandsche Maatschappij der Wetenschappen (KHMW; Royal Holland Society of Sciences and Humanities) in Haarlem.

David's thesis, entitled "Monitoring the Hyperactive Repeating Fast Radio Burst source FRB 20220912A with the Nançay radio telescope", was done at the Anton Pannekoek Institute for Astronomy of the University of Amsterdam. In his thesis, David analysed a large set of observations and detected hundred of fast radio bursts, developing new techniques both to find the bursts in the first place and measure their properties. The prize committee lauded David's thesis, both in terms of its scientific and technical contributions as well as the depth and quality of the writing. David is working towards publishing his MSc thesis work in a refereed journal.

Now at ASTRON, David is working to uncover stellar bursts in LOFAR data.
