A wonderful open day at the LOFAR superterp

Last Sunday's open day was a great success! Despite the remote location, around 1,200 (!) visitors managed to find the LOFAR superterp, where we, together with Stichting LofarTafel, Het Drentse Landschap and Waterschap Aa en Hunze, among others, stood with all kinds of fun activities! From crafting a pulsar to attending a lecture: we had everything! People could take a walk on the superterp and a canoe trip, measure the Milky Way with a paint can, experiment with radio waves, play with gravity and experiment with the doppler effect.

Not only the visitors had a lot of fun; the ASTRON employees who helped this day also had a blast. The weather helped too, of course: we were able to enjoy a beautiful late summer's day.

After the location was cleaned up and everything was packed again, anyone who wanted to could join the dinner organised by our friends from Stichting LofarTafel. It provided a wonderful ending to a wonderful day.

Nothing can compare to having been there, but the photos give a nice impression.
