In Memoriam: Reltje (Bob) Rijf (1936 - 2023)

This week our Kapteyn Sterrenwacht colleague Bob Rijf passed away. When Bob became a job at the “Leidse Sterrenwacht” he was send to NFRA in Dwingeloo to improve the electronics of the “Dwingeloo Telescope”. After that he joined many projects at the “Leidse Sterrenwacht” to make the designs for the electronics. He did this together with Aad van der Helm.

In 1982 a part of the Leidse Sterrenwacht Team had to move to the Kapteyn Sterrenwacht in Roden to join their Groningse colleagues. In Roden they worked on several projects. Taurus, Seismometer, AEG box for the Utrecht Echelle Spectograph, Wide-Field Camera and the start of VISIR. In Roden he was my group leader and mentor. In those days I was still in the assumption that every group leader was that good as he was. But later on you realise that you had the luck to met a guy like him. Thanks for making me what I am now.
